URBANA VILLOR 2
| Malmö, Sweden | 1244 m² | 2012

In Västra Hamnen, Malmö, Sweden, eight new stacked urban villas have been constructed in this once-industrial port area. The research project, between Lund University of Technology and E.on, investigates the latest in sustainable design. Each apartment, equipped with a private garden or terrace and large orangery - where the eight different Mediterranean vegetation zones are organized into miniature habitats - allowing for the seasons to be prolonged. Forest vegetation of redwoods, magnolias, and bamboo brings nature close to the home, allowing exploration of flora and fauna from the window. ('Staycations' can reduce the CO2 footprint by up to 4 tons per year.) Additionally, each apartment has access to an allotment garden, a sauna, and a pool. ditionally, each apartment has access to an allotment garden, a sauna, and a pool.
