GARDEN OVER PARIS : LES BOUDOIRS

Paris, France | 2700m² | 2022

In the heart of Paris, an eclectic collection of gardens and terraces was created for a major french luxury house within a complex that combines Haussmannian tradition with minimalist architecture. Like a camaïeu of forms and textures inspired by leather, scales and shells, feathers, leaves, bark, and other wonders of the animal and plant worlds, these spaces unfold across the Parisian rooftops. Together, they create a world of microcosms. These distinct environments open onto the Parisian sky and its horizon, defined by timeless and universal architectural landmarks, while connecting to the introverted continuity of the interior spaces reimagined by the architects at GRAFT. Responding to the microclimates and micro-landscapes distributed across seven floors of a site spanning more than 6,000 m², the project explores a wide range of botanical themes, from savannah to jungle, from boreal landscapes to aquatic environments, as well as rose gardens and an orangery. In total, twelve gardens and terraces were created over a four-year construction period. The interplay between the natural world of vegetation and the artificial structures that support it establishes a new, distinctive design language, in which the two realms interact without ever completely merging or losing their individual identities. The gardens were realized using complex and innovative woodworking and steel fabrication techniques, bringing together a wide range of specialists to bring these worlds to life.
