Bremen Roofs G14/16/25
Bremen, Germany | 1330 m² | 2025
Since Kellogg ceased production in Bremen, a new urban district has been taking shape on the former industrial site between the Weser River and the Europahafen as part of the Überseeinsel development. The Flakes Factory, together with the Machine House and Boiler House, forms a cohesive architectural ensemble. As the largest production building of the former Kellogg facility, the Flakes Factory serves as an identity-defining landmark and a distinctive focal point for the new urban district, owing to its prominent presence along the Weser waterfront. It will accommodate new public-facing uses, urban production facilities, and loft-style housing. The guiding principle behind the conversion of the former production building is an appreciation of the existing structure’s diverse qualities and potential, as well as its emotional significance for the local community. As much of the original building fabric as possible will therefore be preserved, repurposed, and further developed in the spirit of the “as found” approach, carrying the building into the future through the creation of new spatial opportunities.
